SHOULD E AVOID THE MONSOON WHEN WE COME TO THAILAND ?

This is a very often asked question and it is important to understand some things.

First of all, if Thailand is indeed a country subject to the monsoon, it has nothing to do with the one that can be seen in India.

Then it is appropriate to divide the monsoon period into several parts, I would say 3 and make a distinction between the different regions of Thailand.

The monsoon is spread from June to October. Nevertheless the month of June which is the beginning of the monsoon is quite insignificant and the 2nd half of October is also often quite calm.

In the month of July the thunderstorms are almost at the rendezvous every day but mainly at the end of the day. They are often intense but only last a few minutes at 2-3 hours.

In the north and in particular Chiang Mai and the Golden Triangle thunderstorms from July to mid-October can be very violent with frequent flooding. The same goes for the Northeast region and the Isaan where the rains can last long hours see several days.

The least affected region is undoubtedly Bangkok and Pattaya where the rains can be violent but are always intermittent, leaving wide sunny beaches during the day even at the height of the monsoon.

Now the question: Is it absolutely necessary to avoid the monsoon?
I would answer no and this for in particular 3 reasons:

1) There are a lot less tourists, which is not unpleasant.
2) Prices are lower than in high season, including hotels
3) It is less warm than from March to May in particular, especially in the north

Advices:
If you come during the monsoon be flexible in your schedule and your programming and do not hesitate to change your plans according to the weather.
You can read the forecast and adapt. The advantage is that at this time you can easily find a place in the hotels.

If the rain is more intense for a few days, visit Bangkok and in favor of a few days of calm go instead on the north.

Also to know that walking and visiting the north, even when it rains is an enriching experience because you can admire lush vegetation in the most total calm and if we know how to find small villages a little hidden, meet the local people which will be much more available and open than at the tourist peak or during the full season of the work of the fields...

Just have a good protective cloak and open his eyes wide to enjoy what you see and you will find great satisfaction, knowing that even if it rains it is not cold.

So do not be afraid, the monsoon is not always and not everywhere a deluge, it is also a very good time to rejuvenate...
