KOH LARN, A LITTLE-KNOWN ISLAND...
If you come to Thailand you will inevitably inquire about the most beautiful islands and you will find multitudes of information on Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Tao, Koh Chang, Koh Kood, Koh Samui etc.…
On the other hand you will not necessarily know Koh Larn.
Located in 8kms off Pattaya, Koh Larn (still called Coral Island) is not devoid of charm.
It is a small island of 4 KMS on 2 kms which today sees increasing the number of tourists but where we can still find quiet beaches.
It is easy to get there from the port of Pattaya (Bali Hai Pier) where boats leave every hour to drive you there in 45mn.
There are 6 main beaches (plus some small unreported and almost deserted).
Samae Beach is over 500 m long with many restaurants but you will find all the amenities and restaurants on all the beaches.
There are now on Koh Larn many small resorts to sleep at reasonable prices.
The advantage of Koh Larn is that the water is crystal clear and turquoise (unlike Pattaya) and you can practice diving, snorkeling, kite surfing or jet ski.
You can go to all the beaches, from Songtaews (group taxis) constantly leaving ports to drive you all around the island.
You can also rent a scooter that will give you more freedom and will allow you to visit all the beaches and choose the one you like the most. You can also, by driving in small roads, find the little forgotten beaches of tourists.
The relief of the island is very hilly and the coasts are in some places very steep.
The port of Nabaan Pier is the main port and you will be at the descent of the boat, at the "capital", small village with shops, restaurants, resorts and even a 7 Eleven.
You can spend a day on the island and enjoy the beach or spend a night (or more).
It is recommended to take the first morning boat (at 8am) which is less crowded with tourists and especially that will allow you to arrive on the beaches first and thus have all the leisure to choose your location. On the other hand starting early you will be able to resume the boat from 3pm or 4pm rather than the last one that is always overloaded.
Feel free to go to Koh Larn if you are in Pattaya, you will bathe in a clean and turquoise water, bathing in Pattaya is rather reserved for the reckless who are not afraid to bathe in waters for the least... dubious…
