THAILAND IMPORTS FRUITS AND VEGETABLES IT PRODUCES...

Thailand, like many and one can even say the majority of countries, imports productions that it does not need.

This is not new and this absurdity is now known to everyone, the law of international trade that we sometimes find ourselves in stupid situations where we import products that oneself one has in large quantity and that one can not sell because of external competition and a merciless price war.

Thailand is known to be a blessed country of the gods in culture and where almost everything grows very well and very quickly, moisture and warmth contributing to give the plants the two most important things for their growth.

Chiang Mai is particularly concerned and this for several reasons.

First of all the climate is particularly favorable with, especially on the reliefs, cooler temperatures and conducive to a very large number of culture.

Then, after the royal will to remove the poppy culture, in 1974 were born several royal projects to promote a biological and responsible culture to replace the cultivation of the poppy.
These projects have lasted and today still allow the villagers to live from their culture by selling their crops in the stores of the royal projects in particular.

This culture represents a small part of the mass cultivated in the region but this deserved to be emphasized.

Apart from this form of culture one meets the traditional culture which unfortunately uses many pesticides as everywhere unfortunately but this is not the subject today.

By going to the markets we are surprised by the profusion and the variety of fruits and vegetables and can be admired as well of great salads as cabbages or beans.

If you are going to walk in supermarkets in Thailand you will see for example strawberries and avocados (I take these 2 examples because they are very representative).

There are actually strawberries but that have little taste, kept cold for days and days in plastic trays and when we look at the origin we see different countries quite distant but not Thailand.

For avocados it is the same thing they are generally not very big, very very hard because not ripe and extremely expensive, also coming from very far.

It's amazing because when you go to Chiang mai you see strawberry plantations everywhere, on acres and you can buy either directly on the farm or on the markets for ridiculous prices.
It is also funny to see when you fly in Chiang Mai, dozens of people bringing their strawberry trays home, a veritable strawberry institution in Chiang Mai.

For the avocados the same thing is found everywhere. The avocado is rather round-shaped, quite big and very tasty. Again the price is ridiculous and for my part, worshipping the avocado I always bring back when I come back from Chiang mai.

At the moment we still do not import bananas that grow endemically everywhere but I still managed (only once) to find bananas from the West Indies in a supermarket in Bangkok.

It was just a little rant about an absurdity of our society functioning, I know that I can not change anything at my level if not consume local and I invite you to do the same especially when going in the countryside we can still find bio , from the real, from the local culture and out of the vegetable garden of the corner farmer…

to taste without moderation...
