THE FAMOUS WHITE TEMPLE OF CHIANG RAI... ITS HISTORY AND PHOTOS...
Wat Rong Khun or Chiang Rai's "White Temple" is arguably the most visited monument in the city.
It was built by Chalermchai Kositpipat a Thai artist who wanted to honor King Rama IX by this artistic present.
The temple radiates from its whiteness which is the purity of Buddhism and its mirrors symbolizes the reflection of enlightenment.
In May 2014, an earthquake caused fear of its final closure but finally the experts decided that it could be renovated and opened again to the public.
Located in 13km of the city it is easy to reach.
It is built at the site of an old temple that fell into ruins.
The artist who built this temple felt that it would not be finished until 2070... to see what the future will tell us…
We see here many symbols of mystical meanings relating to Buddhism or more simply to a reflection on human nature and its deviance, greed, Temptation, desire…
Here we see representations of Harry Potter, Superman and Hello kitty which can very much surprise in the enclosure of a temple but the artist wanted to pass the message that everyone in our universe is wicked…
The gilded building is the symbol of the body and the white building the symbol of the spirit.
Gold represents worldly desires, money and all earthly basic goods.
The white building is symbol of the spirit, the merit, the opposite of the dollar things and possession.

It is important here to understand this philosophy because it is more of an artistic achievement devoted to a beloved king rather than a true temple dedicated to prayer.
The ensemble is certainly a bit heterogeneous but gives a rather broad view of an Asian and mainly Thai philosophy of the interpretation of virtues and means of finding a form of wisdom.
