A WHALE DIES IN THAILAND AFTER INGESTION OF 80 PLACTIC BAGS...
Organizing your trip to Thailand without using plastic bags is definitely a gamble but it is possible without much effort...
A whale finally died near the border with Malaysia after a vain attempt to save her.
The poor animal, a male whale had swallowed 80 plastic bags.
Such a quantity can only lead to death according to the veterinarian who vainly tried to save her.
Thailand is one of the largest consumers of plastic bags in the world but the problem may not just be from there. Indeed, consuming plastic bags is one thing and throwing them anywhere is another.
It is true that when you go to a supermarket or at 7 Eleven you will be surprised at the number of bags that pack your purchases, it's scary.
If the plastic bags are thrown into the garbage cans then they will be recovered, incinerated (I know it also releases toxic fumes), buried (I know they take hundreds of years to disintegrate) or recycled (I know it's complicated and expensive).
If they are thrown into the wild, and especially on the coast, according to the winds they end up in the sea and it is even worse.
Of course, the best would be to do as in France, more plastic bags but here we are still very far away.
The only thing we can wish for is that the Thais understand that you have to throw the bags in the garbage, that would be very good already.
Moreover, we do not throw the stone only to the Thai but also to the tourists and especially the Europeans who once outside the Schengen area are eager to throw the bags anywhere under the pretext that everyone does the same.
The authorities have taken action on certain beaches in Thailand by banning smoking on the beaches, hope they do the same to ban plastic bags.
Today we are talking about a whale but let us not forget the turtles, dolphins and other marine creatures that in many lose their lives every year.
Turtles that eat jellyfish do not make the difference between a plastic bag and a jellyfish...
What would you say if you had to eat a dozen plastic bags?
I believe you have to be and be responsible when trying when going to the supermarket or 7 eleven to take our non-disposable bags and make the plastic bags, maybe it's a drop in the sea but it's a start, especially if one explains why to those give them to us, and in any case it allows to have the satisfaction of having started something....
Nature is to everyone and has no border...
Good trip...
