BANGKOK TO PATTAYA BY HIGH SPEED TRAIN...
3 months ago The government validated a high-speed train project that would link Don Mueang Airport to U-TAPAO (Rayong Pattaya Airport) in 45mn.
Several stops are scheduled including one at Suvarnabhumi Airport and one in Pattaya City which would allow a quick link between the two airports and would put Suvarnabhumi International Airport at 30-35mn from Pattaya.
Given the intense traffic between the two airports and the current time to rally Pattaya, there would be a very clear improvement in terms of time.
The project is ambitious with 200 billion of baht of investment (more than 5.2 billion euros) but will decongest the roads as well in the capital between the two airports as on the highway connecting Bangkok to Pattaya and U-TAPAO Airport .
The airport U-TAPAO (Rayong/Pattaya), after its renovation is now the 3rd International Airport of Thailand in attendance.
Questions remain unanswered today.
Where will the TGV stop in Pattaya?
What will be the price of the ticket?
What will be the frequency?
The current transport (bus, taxis, van...) will certainly defend their beefsteak but it may result in a price drop, although taking a bus between Suvarnabhumi and Pattaya costs only 150 to 200 baht and the journey is 1h30 to arrive at Center.
If the price of the TGV ticket is 3 times more expensive, not sure whether the clientele is necessarily the appointment (at least a part of it).
What is interesting in my opinion is the marked desire to equip the kingdom with high-speed railway infrastructures, which can be foreshadowed (and the TGV Nord project to connect China via Nongkhai and Laos is the proof) of a Wide coverage that eventually connects Chiang Mai, NongKhai, Hua Hin, Phuket in record times with respect to the aircraft and at competitive prices.
The Bangkok-Pattaya link may not be the best example but it is a test shot.
However, even if the project is signed it still takes a long time before the line is in service and for your next vacation in Pattaya you will have to settle for what exists...
Happy Holiday...
