MAYA BAY OF THE PHI PHI ARCHIPELAGO CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC...
Between Phuket and Koh Lanta is located the Kho Phi Phi archipelago including the island of Phi Phi Ley where is located Maya Bay and its white sand beach made famous by the movie "The Beach" where Leonardo Di Caprio turned.
The Thai authorities decided to close the access to Maya Bay from June to September to allow the flora and fauna to regenerate.
Indeed, it is strongly affected by the effects of global warming but also the onslaught of tourists, some of whom are unscrupulous trampling the corals, not to mention the waste left everywhere.
Starting in October, beginning in high season, access to the bay will be limited to 2,000 tourists per day compared to 4000 currently.
Let us hope that these measures will be enough to preserve this wonderful site and if the news disappoints you, there are still many beautiful islands in the region also and that will leave you such fond memories.
