SONGKRAN IN A VILLAGE NEAR NONGKHAI...

Songkran is one of the celebrations, if not the most important celebration for Thais.

The party is usually around 13-15 April every year but it all depends on the moon as we are there on a lunar calendar.
It is also the hottest period of the year (fortunately because getting sprayed is rather a well-being...)
The Thai asparagus Buddha with veneration, the belief that the water purifies and keeps the spirits away.

The party is all over the country, with an important party in the biggest cities or tourist cities like Bangkok, Phuket... and especially in Chiang Mai with a very special ambiance.

That day everyone sprinkles everyone, including the police who are doing (or trying to make the traffic), no one escapes it.

Here, at my house in Nongkai it's the same thing, the party is full for three days.
Families get together, those who live further away because of their work, in particular in Bangkok, go home to find the family.
From morning to evening and until late at night we are happy to be together and to commune around this sacred feast.
I speak of communion because it is really the word, people are really happy to find themselves because those who work far do not come back often in Thailand the family has a very important meaning almost sacred.

In this video that I took myself this year, I wanted to highlight especially the aspect "to honour the elders" because it is often an unknown aspect and tourists passing through the major tourist centres will not see it despite that this a major point of this feast of Songkran.

Indeed, during the celebration of Songkran, to pay homage to the elders is one of the most important moments and it is this aspect that I wanted to put forward in this video because very few tourists know him.
Hoping to have you discover a little more of my country...
Come see us next year for the feast of Songkran in our village...
