DISCOVER THE NICE TEMPLE "WAT PA PHUKON"...

Wat Pa Phukon is a rather little-known temple that deserves to be stopped.
Located in the Issan at 120 kms of Udon Thani It is nestled in the mountain in a beautiful setting and away from everything.

You can go there either from Udon Thani or, and it's even better as much more touristy on the ride, from Nong Khai following the Mekong towards Chiang Khan.

The road that follows the Mekong is beautiful and you will see in some places the Mekong under a different eye, especially in the dry season where you can practically cross it on foot to go to Laos on the other side, jumping small islets in small islets.

The temple is located on a forest park of 480 hectares and it is a recent temple since it dates only from 2012.
The story begins in 2006 when some monks leave for Italy to choose marble in Carrara, to serve to make a gigantic reclining Buddha.
In 2008 the land where the temple is built is chosen and in 2012 the temple is inaugurated which is a real feat for having built this building in record time especially considering a difficult accessibility.

The Reclining Buddha is the real attraction, outside the landscape of course.
It consists of 43 blocks of marble each weighing between 15 and 30 tons each a total weight of about 900 tons for a length of 20m.

The cost was 350 million of baht (about 9 million euros) and financed by the royal family.
Its blue roof is original and you will enjoy visiting both the inside, with the reclining Buddha, as the outside by going around to admire the panorama and soak up the tranquillity of the place.

On the way down you can have lunch in a small simple restaurant at the roadside, simple but good and there is not really a choice.
A ballad not to be missed if you are in the vicinity...
